Anne Houston-Rogers, 73, of Seattle Washington, passed peacefully on December 24, 2020, due to complications from Acute Myeloid Leukemia.
Born on June 22, 1947, she was the 3rd of eight children born to the late Mr. and Mrs. James and Maggie Houston who preceded her in death along with her husband, Melvin Rogers, and siblings Melvin Lacey, Jimmie Lee Houston, David Houston, and Rosetta Houston. Anne is survived by her daughter, Tammarrian (Tammy) Rogers, of Los Angeles, California; brothers John Houston of Barrow, Alaska and Jerry Houston of Jefferson City, Missouri; and sister, Susie Cooper and her husband, Jack, of Arlington, TX.
In her own words, “I’ve lived a good life!” Anne loved her nieces and nephews as if they were her own children. Her proudest accomplishments were “her daughter, marriage and her education.” She earned two Bachelor’s degrees, Law and Marketing, a Master’s in Business Administration and a Juris Doctorate in Law.
Although Anne worked hard in various positions and roles throughout her life, she always found time to give back to her community. She led efforts to assist people experiencing homelessness through her church, Second Baptist in Santa Ana, served as a professional Mediator in Florida and Washington State and was a Washington State appointed Commissioner of African American Affairs. Her most recent focus was providing healthcare and shelter to homeless veterans. Anne will be remembered for her commitment to helping others. Even in her final weeks, she enjoyed teaching some of her caregivers about how to read and interpret contracts, something they will be able to apply for the rest of their lives.
